Markets' rally lifts Great Eastern's Q2 bottom line
Earnings more than double, helped by rise in non-operating profit

THE rally in financial markets has lifted Great Eastern Holdings' non-operating profit in the second quarter of 2017 and, in turn, helped more than double the insurer's net profit to S$279.5 million from S$102.2 million a year ago.
This represents earnings per share of S$0.59 for the three months ended June 30, up from S$0.22 for the corresponding in 2016.
Non-operating profit in Q2 was S$73.4 million, a reversal from the S$33.1 million loss a year ago.
