Noble Group said on Thursday that it has hired former oil trader, Wael Amer, as its deputy head, Middle East & North Africa and East Africa with effect from Oct 7, 2015.

NOBLE Group said on Thursday that it has hired former oil trader, Wael Amer, as its deputy head, Middle East & North Africa and East Africa with effect from Oct 7, 2015.

Mr Amer was previously with Trafigura, where he was head of Oil Trading for the Middle East and East Africa.

The Hong Kong-based commodities group, which has seen the departures of a number of its senior trading staff recently, said Mr Amer will be based in Dubai and report to Raj Kapoor in his role as chief operating officer, Middle East & Central Asia, and Jeff Frase in his role as global head of Oil Liquids.

"Wael will also work closely with CEO Yusuf Alireza as the key sponsor for building out Noble's Middle East and Africa business strategy," the Singapore-listed group said.

Mr Amer joined Trafigura in 2006 to open the Dubai office and establish its presence in the Middle East. He started his career as a fuel oil trader with Shell in Dubai before moving to gasoline trading and ultimately ran the North West Europe Gasoline trading desk for Shell in London.
