RIP: Annual reports on CD-ROM

They're no longer seen as a greener option; cost, easy online access to electronic reports also cited for demise

AUDIO CDs have long gone the way of the dodo - it's only a matter of time before annual reports in CD-ROM format followed suit.

The main trigger for its demise could be the Singapore Exchange's easing of rules on electronic communication, but Singapore-listed companies say many other factors have also contributed to the death of the CD. These include the demise of CD drives and players, easy online access, the collapse of CD manufacturing and the format's negative environmental impact.

SGX announced in March last year that companies could send out annual reports and other documents digitally, if shareholders agree to accept electronic versions. But investors can also opt for hard copies....
