MOUNT Alvernia Hospital, which has had a facelift, launched its new medical centre and an outpatient laboratory on Monday.

The new medical block comprising eight levels with more than 50 medical suites, was completed in April and started serving patients in July.

It has 34 specialist clinics in fields including obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G), cardiology and neurology.

The additions are part of its wider plan to expand its services as more patients seek geriatric care in light of Singapore's rapidly aging population.

The hospital's chief executive officer Lee Suen Ming said the hospital is looking to add another 33 beds to its current 303 by the end of 2015.

He added that the outpatient laboratory in the new medical centre will feature dedicated patient rest areas and child-friendly play areas to enhance patients' comfort while they undergo tests.

An earlier version of the story stated that there are 34 specialists in the new medical block. It should be 34 specialist clinics.
