Deloitte's Chaly Mah named chairman of Singapore Accountancy Commission

The Minister for Finance has appointed the chairman of Deloitte Singapore, Chaly Mah, as chairman of the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC) with effect from April 1, 2016.

THE Minister for Finance has appointed the chairman of Deloitte Singapore, Chaly Mah, as chairman of the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC) with effect from April 1, 2016.

Mr Mah will be taking over from Michael Lim, who served as chairman of SAC's predecessor from October 2011, and has been chairman of SAC since its inception in 2013.

SAC was set up in 2013 as the statutory body to promote the growth and development of the accountancy sector, following recommendations from the Committee to Develop the Accountancy Sector (CDAS).

During his term, Mr Lim oversaw the development of the Singapore Qualification Programme 2 - one of the key recommendations from CDAS to make Singapore a leading global centre for accountancy talent.

Since SAC's inception, Mr Lim has also been instrumental in the launch and implementation of the Singapore QP (Qualification Programme). Mr Lim has also laid the foundation for SAC's initiatives in the areas of internal audit, business valuation and the Singapore CFO Institute.

Mr Mah has served as SAC's deputy chairman since April 1, 2015.
