SINGAPORE strongly condemns the heinous attack in Nice, France that killed and injured many innocent people, its Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
"We are shocked and saddened yet again by another terror attack. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish those who are injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with the people of France at this time," a spokesman said in a release.
The ministry said that it has verified the safety of all registered Singaporeans in Nice.
"The Singapore Embassy in Paris is in contact with the local authorities to ascertain whether there are any Singaporeans affected by the attack," it added.
Earlier, a truck smashed into a crowd in the French resort of Nice, killing at least 80 people in what President Francois Hollande on Friday called a "terrorist" attack on revellers enjoying a Bastille Day fireworks display.
Wires reported that the driver was shot dead after barrelling the truck through the festive crowd on the palm-lined Promenade des Anglais, sending hundreds fleeing in terror and leaving the area strewn with bodies.
Singaporeans in France are advised to exercise vigilance and follow the instructions of the local authorities, and when possible, let their family and friends know that they are safe.
