Gathering of global maritime community
THEMED "Navigating through challenging times", Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2017 takes place on April 22-28.
SMW is the leading maritime event in Singapore. Driven by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), SMW gathers the international maritime community in Singapore for a week of conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events in celebration of all things maritime. The activities and events organised by MPA, the industry and research and educational institutions, as well as the cosmopolitan profile of participants, reflect the vibrancy and diversity of Singapore as a major international maritime centre.
This year, SMW is co-located with SeaAsia and Iron Ore Week. The returning biennial Sea Asia Exhibition & Conference will address the latest topics, key trends and challenges facing maritime and offshore businesses. A new feature is the inaugural Parliamentary Debate where six shipping industry veterans will be debating for and against the motion, "This House believes that the best days of the private independent shipowner are over".
Held in conjunction with SMW for the first time, Singapore Iron Ore Week 2017 will bring together industry players from both demand and supply sides. With an impressive line-up of speakers including representatives from BHP Billiton, Tata Steel, Rio Tinto, Citibank and SGX, participants can expect to gain insights on the challenging issues facing the industry.
The event will bring iron ore and steel industry players together for a week of discussions, trading workshops and networking events to tackle issues such as the seemingly overwhelming supply of iron ore, the threat of a weakening demand and the volatility in iron ore price.
