Tuesday, July 12, 2016 - 05:50

"SKILLSFUTURE - Developing a future ready workforce" is the theme of a Switzerland-Singapore business forum being organised at Shangri-La Hotel on Tuesday in conjunction with the state visit of President of the Swiss Confederation Johann N Schneider-Ammann to Singapore. He will give a keynote address to the forum.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies and SkillsFuture Council chairman, will also be delivering a keynote speech at the forum.

The business forum will focus on Singapore's SkillsFuture and Switzerland's dual-track vocational education and training (VET) system at large from the perspectives of industry representatives and experts, and thus highlight the potential positive impact on the economy.

As SkillsFuture is among the top priorities on Singapore's agenda, the Swiss VET system and expertise are highly regarded here as reflected by the numerous visits to Switzerland and contacts with the country to try to benefit from the Swiss experience.

The forum aims to facilitate dialogue and exchange between various Swiss and Singaporean stakeholders and experts from the industry and academia as well as policy makers while further contributing to Singapore's and Switzerland's goal to have a well-educated and well-prepared workforce for the upcoming needs of the economy.

The panellists at the forum include Peter R Voser, chairman of the board of directors of ABB Ltd, Switzerland, and Robert Yap, president of the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) and executive chairman, YCH Group, Singapore.

The forum will be moderated by Jeanne Liew, principal and CEO of Nanyang Polytechnic.
