[GENEVA] A 90-day ban of Fifa's top administrator, secretary general Jerome Valcke, has been extended by 45 days, the ethics panel of world soccer's governing body ruled Wednesday.

The ban extension takes effect Wednesday, the adjudicatory chamber of Fifa's Ethics Committee said in a statement. The investigatory chamber of the same ethics committee on Tuesday said Valcke should be banned from soccer for nine years and fined 100,000 Swiss francs (US$99,100) for violating FIFA's general rules of conduct.

Valcke has denied wrongdoing. In a statement yesterday, his lawyer called the penalties "nothing more than a self-serving public relations effort to wrongly attack Mr Valcke in a desperate attempt to try to prove that Fifa can police itself."
