DEFENDING champions Team SunMoon turned in another high-scoring round in the final game of this year's Business Times Corporate Golf League on Thursday. Entering that final game on Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong course with a large lead, Team SunMoon shot the highest total in the final round to make the trophy theirs for the second year running. There was a change to the categories this year. After last month's fifth round on the Singapore Island Country Club's New Course, the teams were divided into two divisions.
The top nine went into the Open Category, and the rest, into Category A. At that point, the cumulative team scores from the best four of the five rounds played were used, making team positions on the league table determined by that four-round cumulative score.
Team SunMoon's final round score of 115 gave them a total of 578. This put them 26 points over second-place finishers Team Citi. Ever-consistent Park Hotel Group, ranked fourth last year, finished in third, while SPH Sultans of Swing and Seagull Gayatri United rounded out the top five positions.
In Category A, Team UBS topped the ladder with 510, followed by Team Singapore Pools, Team Centurion, Team Emerio and Team Cerebos. As with the previous three years' edition of this golf league, this year's was co-organised by Golf Digest Singapore.
The event brought members of the business and corporate community together for six rounds of golf, played on some of this country's finest courses. Eighteen teams took part, including one non-competitive one. All participants had the opportunity to network, make new friends, catch up with old ones and, in the process, have enormous fun.
There were a number of returning sponsors this year, such as presenting sponsor Audi Singapore, which offered an Audi A3 Sportback as a hole-in-one prize for each round. Main sponsor Park Hotel Group and hole-in-one sponsors Audemars Piguet and World Golfers Championship Singapore also returned to the league; returning for the fourth year were Boustead, Centurion, Cerebos, Singapore Pools and Vertix.
At the post-final round gala dinner, as guests tucked into Sentosa Golf Club cuisine and drank beverages supplied by Clan Gold, 6 Drunk Men and Profiters International, the team trophies and other prizes were handed out. The "Most Improved Team" prize went to Team Orange Tee. The top lucky draw prize of a pair of business class tickets to Shanghai was won by Janice Khoo from Team Park Hotel Group.
