SINGAPORE Maritime Week is a yearly showcase for the Republic's maritime industry that has evolved to rival those in London and Oslo in recent years. The sector here has 5,000 maritime companies that employ 170,000 people and accounts for 7 per cent of Singapore's GDP.
With the maritime sector as diverse as it is, it is little wonder that SMW 2013 indeed had a broad reach.
"Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) is all about people, ideas and opportunities," said Lam Yi Young, chief executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), which organises SMW. "With something for everyone, SMW features a range of outreach activities, conferences, seminars and networking events for one and all each year."
