The Hang Seng index added 0.41 per cent, or 106.25 points, to 25,776.30.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was flat, dipping 0.87 points to 3,157.00 while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, was marginally higher, adding 0.38 points to 1,871.72.
