Can you beat your 4+% CPF returns?

Fund managers say yes; insurers say CPF rates are hard to beat; financial planners say it depends on the individual

The take-up rate for the Supplementary Retirement Scheme is still relatively low. There are around 90,000 account holders with an average of S$47,000 each in the scheme at end-2013. But more than 400,000 taxpayers have an assessed income of above S$80,000 a year and another half a million earn between S$40,000 and S$80,000, where a bit of tax savings from the scheme could be had.


INDUSTRY players have different views on whether private pension plans can reasonably generate a return higher than the roughly 4 per cent a year that the Central Provident Fund (CPF) currently offers.
