China overtakes Japan as world's second-biggest stock market

Its market cap climbs to US$4.48 trillion this week while Japan's slips to US$4.46 trillion

    CHINA surpassed Japan as the world's second-largest stock market for the first time in three years amid growing investor confidence that policymakers in Beijing will revive the economy with monetary stimulus.

    China's market capitalisation climbed to US$4.48 trillion on Thursday after a 33 per cent increase this year, according to Bloomberg data. Japan's slipped to US$4.46 trillion and has dropped 3.2 per cent since the end of December.
