Tokyo: Stocks open higher on Wednesday

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened higher on Wednesday in cautious trade as investors were seen bargain-hunting with a lack of fresh events to support the market after slides in US shares.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index edged up 0.23 per cent, or 49.79 points, to 21,499.18 in early trade, while the broader Topix index was up 0.15 per cent, or 2.41 points, at 1,619.61.
