M1 and Keppel Electric are taking their consumer utilities tie-up islandwide, in tandem with the increased liberalisation of the energy market in Singapore.

Customers will be able to sign up for Keppel Electric power plans at any M1 store from Thursday, with goodies on offer such as phone bill rebates or a discount on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 handset.

The move follows a smaller-scale product bundling unveiled in March, when customers could switch energy providers to Keppel Electric at the M1 outlet in IMM Jurong during the soft launch of the Open Electricity Market (OEM). A full nationwide roll-out of the OEM begins on Thursday.

Keppel Electric general manager Janice Bong said in a joint media statement that "the response from the Jurong soft launch has been well received and we are delighted to deepen our partnership with M1".

Meanwhile, P Subramaniam, chief marketing officer for M1, said that the collaboration capitalises on "M1's extensive customer reach in Singapore and Keppel Electric's strong brand proposition in the local electricity market", and added that it will give customers more value and convenience.

M1 and Keppel Electric have been partners in the energy market since August last year, when they deployed a smart utilities meter using M1's commercial nationwide narrow-band IoT (NB-IoT) network.
