SEMBCORP Industries announced on Friday the opening of its second cogeneration plant and a technology and innovation centre, both in Singapore.
The S$635 million gas-fired cogeneration facility in Jurong Island's Banyan area has a gross capacity of 400 megawatts of power and 200 tonnes per hour of process steam. It increases Sembcorp's combined gross power generating capacity in Singapore by 50 per cent to 1,215 megawatts.
Sembcorp said the plant complements its other facilities in the vicinity, including a multi-utilities centre and an industrial waste water treatment plant.
The Sembcorp Technology and Innovation Centre is located just across from the new cogeneration plant. It houses laboratories and applied research and development facilities, where Sembcorp researchers and engineers develop and integrate innovative processes and test emerging technologies.
Sembcorp Industries group president and CEO Tang Kin Fei said: "Sembcorp's new cogeneration plant enhances Sembcorp's capabilities to serve companies across the whole of Jurong Island.
"At the same time, the Sembcorp Technology & Innovation Centre and our advanced global asset-management system will enable us to efficiently manage our international energy and water operations from Singapore, and further drive efficiency, optimisation of resources, availability and reliability."
