SINGAPORE Exchange enjoyed a 70 per cent surge last year in the volume of over-the-counter and exchange-traded commodity derivatives listed on the local bourse, outpacing the global commodity derivatives growth of 23 per cent.
A report by the exchange showed that the total volume of seven products went past the million mark to hit 1,006,807 lots in 2013, up from 592,805 lots in 2012.
"In total, six commodity derivatives experienced a growth in volumes: OTC Iron Ore, Rubber Futures, Iron Ore Futures, OTC Oil, OTC Coal and OTC Rubber," it said. Just one commodity derivative - OTC FFA (Forward Freight Agreement) - saw a decline in volumes.
