[SINGAPORE] Strong leadership is essential for countries in the region to avoid conflict, and to progress together in mutual benefit for all, said Second Minister of Defence Chan Chun Sing yesterday.

In a keynote address to some 280 defence experts, military officials and academics at the seventh Asia-Pacific Security Conference (APSEC), held in conjunction with the Singapore Airshow, Mr Chan said that wise and courageous leaders are important in a time where increased military spending in Asia create a challenge on how to avoid potential miscalculations.

The conference, themed Asian security dynamics and the role of airpower, was held at the Raffles City Convention Centre.
