Three New York airports set to get US$8b facelift over 10 years

TIM Collins emerged from Terminal D at La Guardia Airport with even less faith in the judgment of Vice-President Joe Biden than usual.

Mr Biden had besmirched New York City's airports this year by likening an arrival at La Guardia to landing in "some third-world country". But Mr Collins, born and raised in Queens and admittedly not a fan of the vice-president, strolled out of the terminal with a wholly different take on the experience. "Where am I?" he said to his wife via mobile phone, ticking off all of the amenities he had just seen. "There were some nice bars. You have your own individual TVs. It's just nice and clean and new."

Mr Collins said his wife had made the same discovery after a recent flight on Delta Air Lines from their home in north Georgia. But until he saw the improvements with his own eyes - new carpets and seating, a plethora of power outlets, computer tablets for ordering from the steakhouse and sushi bar - he was unable to …
