Carbon tax 'works better with industry benchmarks'
Industry players propose lower or no taxes for energy efficient firms; higher taxes for the less efficient

A UNIFORM carbon tax will be too blunt an instrument to yield effective results, said industry players on Tuesday as they urged the government to consider using industry benchmark targets and a differentiated approach in the implementation of the tax.
They proposed that companies which are more energy efficient than these benchmarks will pay less or no tax, while those less efficient be penalised with a more hefty tax.
