GE quick takes: PSP, Workers' Party unveil manifestos; PAP replaces Ivan Lim

Just a day before Nomination Day, the People's Action Party (PAP) introduced 35-year-old Xie Yao Quan as the replacement for Ivan Lim as one of its candidates for the Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC).

SINGAPORE will go to the polls on July 10 in an election that will see 93 seats in 31 constituencies up for contest.

PSP manifesto calls for reduced foreign labour reliance, stronger safety net for vulnerable groups

The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) said a reduction in dependence on foreign labour, more support for small businesses hiring local, and a stronger safety net for vulnerable groups are among the key priorities in its election campaign.

Manpower Minister Josephine Teo will helm the PAP team contesting Jalan Besar GRC, together with incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) Denise Phua and Heng Chee How, as well as new candidate Wan Rizal Wan Zakariah.


Two new faces in PAP's Tanjong Pagar GRC team

Tanjong Pagar GRC's two new candidates are Alvin Tan, 39, LinkedIn's Asia-Pacific head of public policy and economics, and former public servant Eric Chua, 41. One of the GRC's incumbent MPs, Melvin Yong, will move to the nearby Radin Mas single member constituency (SMC).


Lawrence Wong to lead PAP team in Marsiling-Yew Tee

National Development Minister Lawrence Wong will lead the PAP team in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, alongside Minister of State for National Development and Manpower Zaqy Mohamad, Alex Yam, and lawyer Hany Soh.


WP proposes SME bank, redundancy insurance in election manifesto; unveils final four candidates

The Workers' Party (WP) on Sunday proposed a dedicated bank to help finance small and medium-sized enterprises' expansion overseas, minimum wage and redundancy insurance. WP secretary-general Pritam Singh also revealed the party's "Make Your Vote Count" election slogan, warning of a "real risk" of a wipe-out of elected opposition members of parliament at the upcoming General Election.


Lee Hsien Yang dismisses remarks about using politics for 'personal problems'

Lee Hsien Yang, the estranged younger brother of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, maintained on Sunday that his entrance into opposition politics was not driven by "personal problems". "I have no need to use the party to be my mouthpiece for anything," Mr Lee said.
