Next 50 years will present new tourism challenges

S'pore must keep 'raising the quality of the experience and value of each tourist': PM Lee

SINGAPORE has overcome many hurdles in the last 50 years of its tourism journey and the country can expect to face new challenges in the next half-century, says Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

In addition to dealing with a labour shortage, Singapore also faces competition from many other cities and destinations that are all offering more customised experiences and building more iconic attractions such as theme parks.

"To keep Singapore special, to keep the tourists coming, we must grow the tourism industry by raising the quality of the experience and value of each tourist - and not solely by increasing visitor numbers," said Mr Lee at a dinner on…
