The new 8 Series is dubbed "the most luxurious sports car" in BMW's portfolio, and it is the first in an upcoming range of high-end cars. A convertible version of the 8 Series is due for launch here sometime this year.

Singapore

BMW'S NEW 8 Series Coupe went on sale in Singapore yesterday with a price tag of S$588,888, including Certificate Of Entitlement.

The sleek, powerful two-door car was created to convey four people in luxury, and at some speed; the M850i xDrive version that went on sale has 530 horsepower and can accelerate to 100km/h in only 3.7 seconds.

To give it surefootedness in treacherous conditions, BMW loaded the car with all wheel-drive. It also has four-wheel steering, which makes it feel more nimble at low speeds but more stable on the expressways.

BMW says it reserves the number "8" for its most sporty models. BMW Asia's managing director Christopher Wehner called the new 8 Series "the most luxurious sports car" in the brand's portfolio, and said it is the first in an upcoming range of high-end cars. A convertible version of the 8 Series is due for launch here sometime this year.

BMW is also launching the X7, the top model in its lineup of sport utility vehicles, in the first half of the year, while a heavily facelifted version of its 7 Series flagship is also on the way.

Together, the new cars will make 2019 something of a luxury-driven year for BMW, and gives its wealthiest customers something to look forward to in case 8 is not enough.
