Fund manager aims to transform Asia forestry sector

Australia's New Forests, with over A$2.8 billion in AUM, wants to tap rising demand for sustainable forestry.

Mr Seeto sees a couple of factors driving the growth of sustainable forestry in Asia, including its proximity to areas where there is demand for forestry products - such as timber, woodchips, paper and cellulose.

IT SEEMS counter-intuitive to pay for and maintain a piece of land, and use only a fraction of it as a plantation. But forestry investment manager New Forests hopes to change this mindset, as it looks to invest a US$170 million fund in sustainable Asian forestry.
