Best energy efficiency practices in the public sector

These two public-sector organisations can hold their own against the best of their private-sector counterparts when it comes to saving energy

HOUSING & DEVELOPMENT BOARD - WINNER, LARGE BUILDING CATEGORY

NEW energy-efficient initiatives have saved the Housing & Development Board (HDB) more than S$1 million a year. And the savings are just for one location, at the HDB Hub in Toa Payoh.These measures, which have been put in place from 2012 to 2014, have helped reduce energy consumption by 40 per cent at the HDB Hub, which translates into savings of $1.5 million a year in utility bills.

Said Mr Ng Kai Beng, the HDB's deputy director of Data Centre Operations: "Data centres are typically energy-intensive facilities and consume high amounts of energy.
