S'pore banks' regional expansion overrated?

Study shows them up as small potatoes compared to established domestic giants

[SINGAPORE] Damned if you do and damned if you don't - Singapore banks probably feel that way when it comes to regional expansion.

There is doubt that going regional would pay off, given the experience of multinational banks - some of whom are still licking their wounds from the 2008 financial crisis.

And yet, a saturated local market leaves Singapore lenders little choice. Like other Asian banks, they have stepped into the gaps that opened up when European banks retreated from providing loans in this region.
