Fifa ethics committee opens formal proceedings against secretary general

The market for global soccer player transfers reached US$4.2 billion in 2015, up 2.6 per cent from the year before and largely attributed to the wealthy clubs in the English Premier League, according to Fifa's Global Transfer Market Report.

[ZURICH] World football body Fifa's ethics committee said on Thursday it opened formal proceedings against secretary general Jerome Valcke, after its investigators recommended a nine-year ban against him.

Investigators for the ethics committee recommended on Tuesday that Mr Valcke be banned from world football for nine years and fined 100,000 Swiss francs (S$143,332).

The committee is preparing a ruling over accusations of corruption involving the sale of World Cup tickets.
