New S$100m fund should spur athletes to excel

Sport Singapore and national sports associations must ensure progress to justify the huge financial commitment.

IN 1988, prison officer Muthu Comarasamy paid his own way to watch Singapore's athletes compete in the Seoul Olympics.

No doubt, the desire to watch the games 'live' for the first time prompted him to go on the two-week trip; he was, after all, an avid sportsman in his youth.
