Private memorial service for Lee Kuan Yew in New York

The memorial service for the former prime minister and a founding father of Singapore, titled A Celebration of His Life and Legacy, was initiated and organised by former US Treasury secretary Robert Rubin and Ray Dalio, a US hedge fund manager and founder of investment firm Bridgewater Associates.


ON Lee Kuan Yew's first official visit to the United States in 1967, president Lyndon Johnson presented his wife, who was accompanying him, a jewellery box. Mrs Lee kept the box and stored in it, among other things, the name card of a bicycle shop.
