BEFORE her arrival in Singapore last week, Simona Halep had never once beaten any tennis player ranked in the world's top three.

The diminutive Romanian didn't have to wait too long on Wednesday to fix that statistic as she needed just 65 minutes to trounce the defending champion and current world number one Serena Williams 6-0, 6-2.
