Never underestimate low-priced wines

A simpler wine can be enjoyed in its own context, provided one approaches it with an open mind.

QUALITY wines can be found even at the lowest end of the scale, and nowhere was that more true than at dinner in Bangkok over the Chinese New Year holidays. We had two Bordeaux wines, a Bordeaux AOC 2010, Antoine Moueix, and Chateau l'Eglise Clinet 2004.

Very dark crimson red, faint aroma of ripe berry fruit. On the palate, good density and ripeness, but rather characterless except for those attributes. There was still a good third of a bottle of wine left, so the bottle was re-corked and drunk the next night together with the balance of the Eglise Clinet.
