IF you approach a Maria Taniguchi painting from a distance, it may look like no more than a black canvas. But closer inspection reveals hundreds - if not thousands - of thin strips, running parallel or perpendicular to each other, each individually painted in a shade of black to collectively achieve something akin to computer static.
