Missing Razzle Dazzle and All That Jazz would be a crime

If Chicago's gripping and suspense-filled plot feels real and current, that's because it is.

The killer (pun intended) hit stage show is the most successful and longest-running musical in Broadway history and the sex, lies and murder-filled storyline - which could easily be adapted into an episode of Law & Order even though it's set almost a century ago - is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, who wrote it based on the crimes she investigated and covered.

The original Broadway production opened in 1975 and ran for two years (936 performances) before making its debut at the West End in 1979 where it played 600 times. It was revived again on both stages in the 1990s and a multi-Oscar-winning 2002 big screen adaptation - with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere and Renee Zellweger playing the roles of murderous showgirl Velma Kelly, slick lawyer Billy Flynn, and housewife-turned-vaudevillian Roxie Hart respectively - made its appeal even more widespr…
