Siput Sarawak, mother of actress-singer Anita Sarawak, appeared in more than 50 Malay films in her lifetime. Born Ramlah binte Dollah in Kuching, Sarawak, she was 12 when her father put her onstage as a chorus girl in an opera. She would soon win over talent scouts who put her on a film career path.
