FOR the first time, the Singapore Garden Festival will be in an outdoor location, at Gardens by the Bay. But being in a natural setting comes with a catch. The plants and visitors are all at the mercy of the weather. So if you're headed there, be prepared to take along a brolly.

The fifth edition of the biennial tropical garden and flower show features 50 gardens and flower displays from The Meadow to the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. Some of the displays are outdoors, while others in a specially constructed tent.

Having a garden setting means the landscape designers can be more creative in their displays. For example, the Sacred Grove by Andrew Wilson and Gavin McWilliam from the UK, features a raised garden.
