Putting society under the lens

Two Malaysian artists take opposing approaches in their works but they both question the times and the mores of their community.

ONE artist takes inspiration from her family and the other from events taking place in the country, but both Malaysian artists holding solo exhibitions here seek to make statements about their community and country.

"I draw inspiration from my two daughters and our family - and then from what I express, it's the bigger picture of what's happening in the country to me," says Shia Yih Yiing, a Sarawak-born artist whose show is now on at Chan Hampe Galleries.
