New exemption to Do Not Call guidelines

Firms may SMS/fax existing clients on related products, with opt-out option

[SINGAPORE] A week before the Do Not Call (DNC) provisions come into force on Jan 2, the authorities yesterday released a set of advisory guidelines and a new exemption in a 44- page report carrying different scenarios, in a bid to clear any confusion and ambiguity.

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC), which aims to safeguard individuals' personal data against misuse, said the new exemption order will also kick in next Thursday. It will enable organisations to send text or fax messages on related products and services to customers and members with whom they have an ongoing relationship, without the need to check the DNC Registry.
