Bunker industry faces tough decisions ahead

Major changes afoot affecting marine fuel, as the 18th Sibcon gets underway in Singapore this week

IT is often said, by their organisers, that particular conferences are being held at critical points in changing times. That is often just hype but this year's Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (Sibcon) really does coincide with some big changes and real uncertainty about how the marine fuel industry may look in a few years' time.

Organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), this week's event is the 18th Sibcon. The now biennial event has become the most popular bunker industry gathering. Last week, the organisers said 1,400 participants from more than 300 companies and 48 countries had been confirmed.
