Make it half-yearly reporting instead

Published Wed, Jan 13, 2016 · 09:50 PM

HAVING read the pros and cons on the issue of whether to scrap the quarterly reporting requirement, I am of the view that a reasonable solution would be to replace it with half-yearly reporting. I have long felt that under the existing requirement, the first-quarter report is to a large extent meaningless as it is too early in the year to discern any trends from the collated figures. It also adds extra pressure upon management as it coincides with the preparation of the AGM, which is the busiest period for management and the board.

Most profitable companies habitually pay out an interim dividend at half-year. It is logical therefore to continue to require reporting at the half-year mark.
