A new year dawns - with anxieties and uncertainties intact

YOU might be forgiven for having a sense of deja vu.

At the start of a new year, the world waits to see how exactly the United Kingdom will leave the European Union (EU), and what direction trade tensions between the United States and China are heading in.

In short, the major geopolitical uncertainties with which 2019 began are still with us at the start of 2020. And it is not inconceivable that they could persist, in some form, through the 12 months or so ahead.
