Thailand's plunge into darkness

    1. What do you think was the most remarkable thing that happened this week?

Spoilt for choice here - there's a long list of remarkables to choose from: One: the continuing fallout from the leaked tape about US presidential contender Donald Trump bragging about groping and assaulting women, which threatens to derail his candidacy. Two, the second public debate between Mr Trump and his opponent Hillary Clinton on Sunday which was less a debate than a dogfight featuring sometimes vicious personal attacks and from Trump, threats, the likes of which have never been witnessed in a presidential contest. Three, the recall, and then scrapping, by Samsung of its fire-prone Galaxy Note 7 phone, resulting in a projected US$5 billion loss for the company and huge reputational damage. But for me, the potentially most far-reaching event was the passing on Thursday of Thailand's monarch Bhumibol Adulyadej at the age of 88.

    2. Why is this a big deal?
