UK banks cut distressed commercial property debt by £14b in H1

LENDERS in the UK cut the value of their distressed commercial- property loans by almost £14 billion (S$28.8 billion) in the first half of the year as banks repaired their balance sheets, a survey by De Montfort University shows.

About £31 billion of unpaid bank loans, or 19 per cent of the total, are now distressed, according to the survey of 81 lenders that was published in the UK on Friday. Distressed loans are in default and in breach of their financial coven…
