GLP, a global logistics property player, has secured two industrial-land plots in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City and plans to invest 300 million yuan (S$59.3 million) to build a "smart logistics" industrial park there.

The two plots, 8.44 ha in total size, were put up for public bidding at the Tianjin Binhai New Area Land Development Centre by Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co (SSTEC).

They are located in the Eco-Innovation Park, which is being developed by SSTEC and has a planning area of 175 ha. The park is near transportation nodes such as Tianjin Port and Tianjin Binhai International Airport. It is also connected to major cities in north China via expressways and railways.

The "smart logistics" industrial park that GLP intends to build will be based on an "AI + Park" model - one in which the management of the park will be improved using "information systems, Internet of Things, computer vision, big data and other information technologies".

Li Zengyi, the person-in-charge of GLP Tianjin, said: "Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City is an ideal choice for us to establish a smart logistics industrial park. The Eco-City has convenient transportation, good business development environment and preferential policies, and well-equipped smart-city infrastructure, which will contribute to the construction of our park and the rapid expansion of our businesses."

Tay Lim Heng, chief executive of SSTEC, said that GLP's investment will provide "plenty" of employment opportunities for the Eco-City and "inject more vitality" into the economic and industries developments.
