The Emerging Enterprise Award 2017 (EE 2017) is now open for applications, joint organisers The Business Times and OCBC Bank announced yesterday.

Now in its 10th year, the award acknowledges and supports promising startups and aspiring small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that have been outstanding in their respective fields.

It is the only business award in Singapore that reaches out to SMEs with annual sales turnover of up to S$20 million per annum.

"Since its inception, the EE Award has seen a broad range of diverse business sectors represented, from life sciences and green technology to more traditional ones such as manufacturing and retailing," said BT editor Wong Wei Kong.

"As the Award continues to evolve, its motivation remains the same - to celebrate the achievements of these emerging businesses."

Up to three winners will be chosen to receive the Emerging Enterprise Winner title and prizes, including professional and consultancy services, executive educational programmes and support in capability development from EE 2017 partners.

Best Innovation Awards will be presented to up to two winners, and one company that is no older than three years old will receive the Most Promising Startup title.

Tan Chor Sen, executive vice-president of global enterprise banking at OCBC Bank, said: "To date, many members of our EE Award alumni have gone on to scale greater heights and built their businesses into world-class brand names.

"As we mark the 10th anniversary of the Award, we look forward to seeing and contributing to more success stories as we work towards building a vibrant and sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem in Singapore."

To be eligible for EE 2017 consideration, companies must be less than 10 years old and have at least 30 per cent of shareholdings owned by Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents.

Enterprises that meet the qualifying criteria have until Friday, June 2, 2017, to register for the award and submit their business plans.
