Rolex

A Rolex watch needs no introduction. But the luxury brand will debut a new Oyster Perpetual Air-King, a watch that perpetuates the aeronautical heritage of the original Rolex Oyster just in time for the festive season. The new Air-King, with a 40mm case in 904L steel, features a distinctive black dial with a combination of large three, six and nine numerals marking the hours and a prominent minutes scale for navigational time readings. The dial bears the name Air-King in the same lettering that was designed specially for the model in the 1950s. It also carries the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015, which ensures singular performance on the wrist.

Lexus

Think outside the box this festive season. Literally. It might not fit under your Christmas tree, but a Lexus automobile makes a great gift for someone who values precision and innovation. At the Tahara plant in Japan, individual components made using cutting-edge digital technology are assembled and finished by master craftsmen called Takumi, whose technical expertise and sure senses are honed by decades of rigorous experience. Take Eiji Goto, for example. A master of engine parts with 37 years of experience, he leads a team whose members must memorise a list of 250 points to inspect, all for just one piece. And it doesn't stop there. The level of detail is astonishing, perhaps best exemplified by the existence of a 14-minute film on how to place a grommet correctly – when the task itself takes only two seconds.
