Grab co-founder, Trainline ex-CEO to join Wise board

DIGITAL payments fintech Wise, formerly known as Transferwise, on Tuesday announced that it has appointed two new director designates to its board to help with the firm's next stage of growth.

They are Grab's co-founder Tan Hooi Ling and Trainline former chief executive officer (CEO) Clare Gilmartin.

In a post on his blog, Wise co-founder and CEO Kristo Kaarmann said Ms Tan and her team's experience in expanding Grab into a "super app" across eight countries in South-east Asia will help Wise as it brings its services to more markets, especially in the Asia-Pacific.

"Wise is now live in seven markets in the region, and we hope to expand this footprint meaningfully in the coming decade," he noted.

Mr Kaarmann also said that Ms Gilmartin's experience at Trainline, a UK-based online rail ticketing platform, will help as Wise scales its operations and services even further to meet the needs of its diversified product and global audiences.

Ms Gilmartin stepped down as CEO last October after seven years in the role. Under her leadership, Trainline scaled from being a UK-only platform to one working with more than 270 carriers across 45 countries in seven years.
