Hong Kong: Stocks retreat at open; Shanghai surges

[HONG KONG] Hong Kong stocks dipped in the first few minutes of trade on Monday following last week's gains and a weak US jobs report, but Shanghai soared as investors returned from a week-long break.

The Hang Seng Index dipped 0.05 per cent, or 14.95 points, to 28,443.09.

But the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index surged 1.62 per cent, or 54.31 points, to 3,403.25, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, jumped 1.26 per cent, or 25.08 points, to 2,013.57.
