Singapore shares begin afternoon trading on negative ground; STI at 3,396.61

SINGAPORE shares resumed trading on Wednesday afternoon in negative territory with the Straits Times Index at 3,396.61, down 0.2 per cent, or 7.86 points, on the day as at 1.03pm.

Losers outnumbered gainers 166 to 121, or about four down for every three up, with 772.5 million shares worth S$476 million traded.

Among the active stocks, SingReinsurance entered the afternoon session up 6.45 per cent, or S$0.02, at S$0.33 with 116.15 million shares traded. Nico Steel was the second-most traded with some 92.95 million shares changing hands at S$0.003 apiece, down 25 per cent or S$0.001.

Active index stocks included OCBC Bank, up 0.65 per cent or S$0.08, at S$12.33; and Singtel, down 1.1 per cent or S$0.04, at S$3.57.
