THE Straits Times Index (STI) opened slightly higher on Thursday, gaining 8.27 points or 0.27 per cent to 3,069.76 after US stocks finished mostly higher on Wednesday.

This comes after the STI finished 2.9 per cent lower at 3,061.49 on Wednesday, as China's shock decision to devalue the yuan sent stocks plunging.

By 9.03am, some 81 million shares worth S$132.4 million had changed hands, with gainers outnumbering losers 86 to 62.

Stocks making gains straight out of the gate included Venture Corp, DBS, OCBC Bank, Fraser & Neave as well as Singapore Exchange.
